Temperatures Lower, But Tivol Continues To Raise Its Giving Throughout Kansas City

October Marks Tivol Staff’s Most Active Month To Date With Its Centennial ‘Acts of Kindness’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (November, 2010) – The temperatures may be plunging and becoming more frigid, but Tivol took its giving into high gear in October and kept its philanthropic thermometer hot as the company and its staff contributed throughout the community in 16 different ways. The 16 acts marks the most dynamic month of giving to date as part of Tivol’s “100 Acts of Kindness” campaign aligned with its centennial celebration, making a significant impression on its charitable footprint.

October Acts:

Event: The Mystical, Magical Evening Dinner & Auction, October 1
Beneficiary: Concerned Care strives to maximize the capability of individuals with developmental disabilities to manage their own lives and minimize their dependence on others.
Participation: Tivol committed to make a donation to benefit the organization.
Event: Dinner of Note, October 2
Beneficiary:Heartland Men’s Chorus is Kansas City's gay men's chorus, singing out in Kansas City since 1986. The members of HMC have joined together for the purpose of making music as a not-for-profit, volunteer chorus of gay and gay-sensitive people who are making a positive cultural contribution to the entire community.
Participation: Tivol was a sponsor of the Dinner of Note.
Event: Big Martini Event 2010, October 6
Beneficiary:The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is a private, not-for-profit organization that has been helping animals in Kansas City for more than 90 years. Its mission is to save and improve the lives of dogs and cats throughout the greater Kansas City community by providing education, adoptions, preventive veterinary care, and spay/neuter services.

Event:Neighborhood Night, October 7
Beneficiary:TRiss Lake Neighborhood

Event:Membership Drive, October 7
Beneficiary:The Human Rights Campaign is a diverse volunteer group of individuals working each and every day to bring the mission of HRC to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender and straight-supportive people in this area. By taking part in community events, prides, town hall meetings and partnerships with other organizations, these volunteers are working hard to support HRC’s efforts in the movement for equal rights for LGBT people.
Participation: Tivol hosted the event at its Country Club Plaza location.
Event: A Night at the Movies, October 8
Beneficiary:Kansas City Children’s Assistance Network’s mission is to undertake and complete projects which benefit Kansas City’s children by providing them with knowledge and resources which allow them to increase the quality of their lives.
Participation:Tivol was a sponsor of A Night at the Movies.

Event:Breast Cancer Awareness, October 8
Beneficiary:Lee National Denim Day adheres to a simple philosophy: one day, one cause, one cure. In 14 years, that philosophy has become a mantra for millions in the fight against breast cancer.
Participation:Tivol acted as a partner of the campaign.
Event:Artists in Residences Fundraising Gala, October 8 – 9
Beneficiary:Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art presents modern and contemporary art of the highest quality and significance. Founded in 1994, the museum collects, preserves, documents, interprets, and exhibits a growing permanent collection; develops and presents special exhibitions; and offers a variety of educational programs.

Event:Annual Gala & Auction, October 9
Beneficiary:Hillcrest Transitional Housing’s primary program focus is moving families from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days. Its mission is to be a transitional housing program providing a Christian environment that helps homeless families become self-supportive, self reliant contributors to society.

Event:Tivol Doggie Cam Bar Grand Opening, October 9
Beneficiary:Wayside Waifs is a charitable animal shelter whose purpose is to place adoptable companion animals in responsible homes. It is the largest pet adoption center in Kansas City, placing over 5,000 animals each year in loving forever homes. Wayside Waifs does not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for animals in our care.

Beneficiary:Back in the Swing Retail Therapy Week is an annual shopping fundraising event that began in Kansas City in 2003 that raises awareness and funds to help improve and protect the health of breast cancer survivors.
Participation: Tivol acted as a partner of the campaign.
Event:HillOween, October 16
Beneficiary:The Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center is a community outreach program of Shawnee Mission Medical Center providing vital support for children facing developmental disabilities. Dedicated to serving children with developmental delays from birth to age six, the Britain Center provides a unique program that involves families in the process of therapy and education.

Event:Firefly Gala, October 22
Beneficiary:Camps for Kids is a Kansas City-based non-profit organization dedicated to helping disabled and disadvantaged youth in our community experience the wonders and the very real benefits of summer camp. Founded in 1980, Camps For Kids now provides critical funding for over 30 Kansas City area camps, with an estimated 4,600 special needs kid.

Beneficiary:The Harvest Ball Society is the largest single fundraising event devoted exclusively to raising funds for charities serving communities in the Northland. Since its inception, the Ball has distributed over $5 million to many different deserving agencies.

Event:KC Metropolitan Crime Commission Tips Hotline Benefit, October 30
Beneficiary:Kansas City Missouri Police Department is a premier police department with a national reputation for excellence that provides innovative and equitable police service to its community through a highly motivated and engaged workforce. Its mission is to protect life and property while reducing fear and disorder.

Event:TeamSmile with The Kansas City Chiefs, October 30
Beneficiary:TeamSmile is a non-profit organization that teams up with major sports organizations to provide quality dental care to underserved populations, while encouraging volunteerism within the dental community. TeamSmile provides free oral health education, screening, and treatment for children who might not otherwise receive it.
