The real beauty of a diamond comes from its extraordinary ability to return light to the eye. This reflection and refraction of light is a direct result of the cut of the diamond, and the proportion of the cut. When cut to proper proportions, each of the stone’s facets and angles is in exact relation to the others. That’s how a diamond traps light and returns it in a shower of fire and brilliance. Thus, the better the cut, the more glorious the fire that is unleashed.
Of course, the cut is the one C not determined by nature – we have the ability to immensely enhance (or, sadly, diminish) the value of any stone. That’s why cutting diamonds is truly a merging of science and art - a C that could just as easily stand for craftsmanship.
Diamonds are graded according to the cut quality (the bottom of the diamond shouldn't be too shallow or too deep), and this grade should carry a great deal of weight in your decision. Unfortunately, most diamonds are cut to retain the size and shape of the raw crystal. This forces light to leak from the bottom of the stone, reducing brilliance and sparkle.
Experienced diamond cutters know that more of the rough crystal must be removed to ensure the finished diamond has proper proportions – and produces the fire that makes diamonds so special. Tivol uses only the best cutters to make sure our diamonds are as dazzling as they can be.
